Alumni Notes

Congratulations to the most recent graduates of the UNI viola studio:

Alyssa Adamec, class of 2016 (BM Performance, BA Communication Disorders) is attending the University of Iowa for graduate work in audiology. She plans to continue to perform with area orchestras, as a chamber musician, and she will continue her involvement in Suzuki teaching.

Nichelle Probst, class of 2015 (MM Performance) is living in Salt Lake City, UT where she is freelancing and starting a private studio.

John Chiles, class of 2015 (MM Performance) is teaching for the UNI Suzuki School and completing a second master's degree in conducting. He is also a substitute with the Waterloo Cedar Falls Symphony.

Andrea Alert, class of 2013 (MM Performance) is subbing with various Iowa Orchestras including the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, Dubuque Symphony, and Orchestra Iowa. She is also teaching for the UNI Community Music School. Andrea teaches violin and viola at West Music in Cedar Falls.

Rebecca Payne, class of 2013 (BM Music Education) is beginning her teaching career at East High School in Waterloo, IA.

Mariia Bogodist, class of 2012 (MM viola performance) began her doctoral studies at Texas Tech in fall 2012. She is currently Principal Violist in the Омская филармония (Philaharmonic of Omsk, Siberia).

Joyce Payer, class of 2012 (Bachelor of Music - Music Education) is Director of Orchestra at North High School in Des Moines, IA

Emilia Alejo Hummel, class of 2004 (BA Education), is a teacher in Iowa City, IA.

Amy Beekhuizen, class of 2010 (MM viola performance), is teaching Suzuki Violin in Bermuda. Let's all go visit her and have some beach time! :)

Stephen Baillie, class of 2002 (BA Music), is a member of the Duluth (MN) Symphony and maintains a private studio of violin and viola students.

Jeremy Cameron, class of 2002 (BA Music), is Director of Orchestras for the Killeen Independent School District in Harker Heights, TX.

Krista Dotzel, class of 2009 (BA Anthropology) did graduate work at the University of Iowa and in Germany in anthropology and is now living in Germany where she works for ROCEEH (Role of Culture in the Early Expansion of Humans) in Tubingen, Germany.

Jonathan Fretheim, class of 2001 (BA Mathematics), is studying computer science at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.

Ellie Hail-Langner, class of 2012 (BA) received her master's degree from UNI and works for UNI's Department of Residence.

Kendra Milder Elledge, class of 2010 (BM Music Education), is teaching orchestra in Davenport, Iowa.

Elizabeth Poe Thompson, class of 2004 (BA Music), worked for the Chicago Lyric Opera and now makes her home in Dubuque, IA.

Nadya Potemkina, class of 2006 (MM viola performance), is teaching at Wesleyan College in Connecticut.

Renee Rapier, class of 2009 (BM performance, viola and voice), finished her MM in voice at UNI and was an Adler Fellow at San Francisco Opera. She is singing all over the country with various opera companies!

Holly Schult Young, class of 2009 (BA Music), is teaching for the UNI Suzuki School.

Amanda Staver, class of 2010 (BM Music Education), is teaching at an American school in Singapore.

Andrew Steffen, class of 2010 (BM Music Education), is Orchestra Director at McKinley Middle School in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Justin Taylor, class of 2010 (BM viola performance), graduated with his MM in Viola Performance from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He is currently living in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Brianna Williams, class of 2009 (BA), lives in Kansas City and works for the US Dept. of Labor. (She has a badge.)
